Richard Maharaj OD – Director of Optometry
Education: Dr. Richard Maharaj completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. He entered private practice in 2003 in the Toronto and Hamilton regions, where he has developed a successful medical optometry practice working collaboratively with ophthalmology. He completed his Fellowship of the American Academy of Optometry in October 2012 a rare distinction among Canadian optometrists.
Dr. Maharaj is a staff optometrist at Humber River Regional Hospital - York/Finch Eye Associates - an intergrated medical eye clinic.
Experience: Dr. Richard Maharaj is a Co-founder of eyeLABS Inc. and has acquired a variety of experiences with clinical and research experience in posterior and anterior segment diseases, particularly dry eye disease, glaucoma and disease of the retina. He has been on the US Advisory Board for Annidis Health Systems Inc. and is a professional affairs consultant for Johnson and Johnson Vision Care, and Allergan. He is a pioneer in multispectral imaging techniques and interpretation training for fellow optometrists.
Accomplishments: He is a national speaker for optometric education on diseases and diagnostics of the posterior segment and writes for various optometric journals. He is a clinical supervisor for optometrist residents in training from both University of Waterloo and New England College of Optometry. He is an active member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists, American Academy of Optometrists and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
